2022 NC3 National Signing Day
Manhattan, KS, April 14, 2022 – In conjunction with other leading schools from across the nation, Manhattan Area Technical College (MATC) held its third annual NC3 National CTE Letter of Intent Signing Day on April 14. The college also awarded five scholarships at the event to go toward tuition and books.
This national event sponsored by the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3) mirrors the NCAA’s National Signing Day for athletes who play sports in college. It is designed to honor students who are entering a technical field and to celebrate the dignity of the work.
“What you do matters to people,” said MATC President Jim Genandt as he addressed students. “Whatever program you are in will matter in someone’s life. That’s the advantage of tech ed,” he continued.
The event also emphasizes MATC’s commitment to enhancing student-centered learning and service to business, industry, and community members.
Industry leaders were also excited about this opportunity because of the high demand for skilled technical workers. “Now is the time that technical workers are needed,” said Wayne Sloan, Chairman of BHS Construction. He continued, “it is a historic time for the workforce. Technical job opportunities are great, and the financial packages within these jobs are at an all-time high.” Several business and industry guests attended in support of students, including Brad Hartenstein, Flint Hills Area Builders Association, Jacob Haefner, ATC Innovative Education Solutions, Keven Ward, TRANE, Mariah Presley, TRANE, Renee Payant, CAT, Wayne Sloan, BHS Construction, and Nathan Redeker, BHS Construction.
Forty-seven students participated in the event and committed to enrolling in the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Associate Degree of Nursing, Automotive Technology, Business Administration, Construction Technology, Industrial Engineering Technology, Information and Network Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Practical Nursing, and Welding programs.
