Adult Ed to KAEA

By Manhattan Tech on April 5, 2022

The Manhattan Tech Adult Education Team attended the annual Kansas Adult Education Association (KAEA) conference held in Wichita, Kansas, March 30-April 1, 2022. The Kansas Adult Education Association has been in in existence since the mid-1940's, and serves as a valuable resource and support system for adult educators across the state.

Presentations were offered by several educators and program leaders across the State of Kansas. Educational resource sponsors and presenters included Aztec Software, Burlington English, and GED.com. Keynote Speaker was Dr. Danny Brassell, an educational advisor, who spoke on “Bringing Joy Back into Education.”

Manhattan Tech is proud to announce one of the college’s English as a Second Language (ESL) instructors, Elsa Valarezo presented at KAEA. Her presentation, “Information Literacy in the ESL Classroom” discussed the differences between information, misinformation, and how educators can help ESL students identify and stop the spread of disinformation. This presentation marks a milestone by Valarezo as her first public presentation since becoming a citizen of the United States of America one year ago.  Conference goers were enthralled by her and the information she shared. Feedback from an attendee included: “This is such valuable information and can be overlooked not just by ESL students, but all students and faculty. Elsa has given us the tools we need to address the differences in the endless amount of information we receive on a daily basis.”

Congratulations to Elsa for her successful completion of her first presentation and representation of the quality of services provided at Manhattan Area Technical College. #ProvidingHIREeducation
